Frames of Interaction

Socially recognized modes of behavior are distorted on internet platforms. In this digital era reality is merged with fiction. I was interested in exploring how we present ourselves electronically in cyberspace (blogs, social platforms, fantasy games and emails). In face to face encounters information about who we are, codes of dress, mannerisms and personality can be read. Electronic communication has established a new range of Frames of interaction

Celebrating the art of traditional practice, materials techniques and process through a combination of film papers and alternative processes.

Inspired by the work of Bernd and Hilla Becher and their systematic approach to documenting industrial structures i wanted to document Paris with the same structured approach emulating the aesthetic qualities and romanticism of Brassai's "Paris de Nuit"(1933)

The Transient Nature of Space

Inspired by the work of Alexey Titarenko,  and the ghost like quality of his work. I developed a series of images exploring this process and his distinctive aesthetic quality. I was particularly interest in the transient nature of space and informed by his series  "City of Shadows" (1992-1994)

I enjoy ‘social documentary’- isolating and underpinning ‘the everyday’ with creative imagery inspired by Alexey Titarenko, Brassai, David Bailey, Alex Prager and Rineke Dijkstra. Aspects of my portrait work have allowed me to explore emotions and develop my interest in that area further; I particularly enjoy the work of Avedon and his ability to capture the excellence of his sitter’s features. There is an intimacy in his work that inspires me.

I am able to listen to other people’s perception of my work; it encourages me to experiment further. I am always looking for new opportunities to progress, making creative images using new techniques, equipment and materials.

Throughout my college work I have been able to adapt to different aspects of photographic practice, which the course has provided me with the opportunity to explore. I have studied both traditional and digital based imagery, which has broadened my skills set. I mostly enjoy working on film due to the ability to process and print my own work and celebrate the art of traditional practice.

I have recently travelled across Europe to increase variety in my work. I search for different cultures to photograph and document, producing a successful body of work. I will be embarking on another ’road-trip’ to Europe this summer develop my photographic portfolio further.
